Original 1981 BP Synod Statement

STATEMENT ON THE KING JAMES
VERSION OF THE HOLY BIBLE
(Adopted by the Synod on 26
October 1981)
1.
We the members of the Synod of the Bible-Presbyterian Church at
its meeting on 26th October 1981 hereby unanimously re-affirm before God
our unswerving loyalty to the Bible, the inspired, infallible, inerrant
and unchanging Word of God.
2.
We note that ever since the founding of the Bible-Presbyterian
Church of Singapore and Malaysia in 1950, this Church has recognised
only one, the Authorised Version or King James Version, as the official
Version to be used for public meetings.
3.
This Synod is of the persuasion that among English Bibles the AV
or KJV is as yet unsurpassed in accuracy of translation, dignity of
language, beauty of phrase and idiom, and faithfulness to our Reformed
Protestant heritage.
4.
This Synod regards the AV or KJV as a bulwark against the dark
forces of ecumenical church union, and a major obstacle in the path of
the current Romeward Movement of the Protestant Church.
5.
This Synod, therefore, reaffirms its continued usage of the AV or
KJV as the version to be used by all Bible-Presbyterian leaders and SS
teachers from our pulpits, and as the version most eminently suited for
the upholding of our Bible-believing, fundamental and separated
testimony.
6.
This Synod recommends that for collateral reading and reference,
in particular by serious students of the Bible, these newer versions may
be used: (a) the New International Version and (b) New American Standard
Bible. However, these should not displace or replace the AV or KJV.
7.
Finally, this Synod solemnly warns all Bible-Presbyterians and
believing friends against the use of unfaithful versions of the Bible,
in particular those which have the characters of a “Common Bible,” or
‘Ecumenical Flavour” or “Romeward Bias.’ Specifically we warn against
the use of three particularly corrupted versions, namely, the Revised
Standard Version (RSV), the New English Bible (NEB) and the Good News
Bible or Today’s English Version (TEV).
